Today's Beautiful Gem: `Two Fears' by the Spanish poet Ramon de Campoamor
(1817-1901) translated by Ben Carruthers.

"When night fell on that lovely day
she, removed from me,
asked, `Why do you draw so near?
I am afraid of you!'

"And later, when the night had passed,
she said so close to me,
`Now why are you so far from me?
I am afraid without you!'"
