Today's Beautiful Gem: `On the Birth of His
Son' by Su Tung-P'o,
translated by Arthur Waley.
"Families, when a child is born
Want it to be intelligent.
I, through intelligence,
Having wrecked my own life,
Only hope the baby will prove
Ignorant and stupid.
Then he will crown a tranquil life
By becoming a Cabinet Minister."
Note: A few readers have criticised me that I do not post
humorous
pieces. I am offering them my apologies with the above piece.
