Today's Beautiful Gem: "The Way" by Edwin Muir.

Yesterday, I posted an echo poem based on the sound. Today, I am
posting a different type of echo verse. The even-numbered lines
of this poem are echoes of the mind and the spirit. This is my
interpretation of the poem. In the original, there is no specific
mention of the echo. Enjoy!

"Friend, I have lost the way.
Is there another way?
I must retrace the track.
Back, I must travel back!
Then I'll make here my place,
Stand still and set my face,
Stay here, forever stay.
I cannot find the way.
Oh places I have passed!
And what will come at last?
Echo: The way leads on.
Echo: The way is one.
Echo: It's lost and gone.
Echo: None goes there, none.
Echo: (The road runs on),
Echo: (The road leaps on),
Echo: None stays here, none.
Echo: The way leads on.
Echo: That journey's done.
Echo: The road leads on."
