Subject: Ghalib: ibn-e-mariyam huwa kare koee...
Hi
A "chota beher" Ghazal from who-else-but
Ghalib! 'Beher' is the 'meter' of
the Sher's. It can be considered as the length of the Sher.
Both the lines
in the Sher *must* be of same 'Beher'. And all the Sher's
in one Ghazal *must*
be of the same 'Beher'. So Ghazal is a collection
of Sher's of *same* 'Beher'.
We have till now seen, what is a "Beher", a
"Maqta" and "Thakkallus"
(refer to earlier posts).
1. ibn-e-mariyam huwa kare koee
mere dukh kee dawa kare koee
[Someone should be Mary's son, Jesus
Someone should solve/medicate my sorrows]
2. bak rahaa hooN junooN meiN kya kya kuchch
kuchch na samjhe KHuda kare koee
[I am blabbering away nonsense, in my state of
ecstasy
I pray to God that nobody understands what I am saying]
3. na suno gar bura kahe koee
na kaho gar bura kare koee
[Don't listen if sombody says something bad
Don't say anything, if somebody does something bad]
4. rok lo, gar GHalat chale koee
baKHsh do gar KHata kare koee
[Stop the person, if he is on the wrong path
Pardon the person, if he makes a mistake]
5. kaun hai jo naheeN hai haajat_mand ?
kiskee haajat rawa kare koee
[Who is it, who is not/never in need(of
something)?
Whose needs can one fulfill?(Since there are 2 many persons, whom
can one satisfy)]
6. jab tavaqqo hee uTh gayee 'GHalib'
kyoN kisee ka gila kare koee ?
[When there is no longer any expectations,
"Ghalib"
Why should one have complaints with anybody?]
Dictionary : ibn = son/child; mariyam
= virgin Mary; junooN = ecstasy; pardon;
KHata = mistake/slip; haajat_mand = person in need;
haajat = need;
rawa = fulfill; tavaqqo = expectations, gila
= complaint
