Subject: Ghalib: koee din gar zindagaanee...

Hi
Who-else-but Ghalib time yet again! Here is one which has "aur hai" as its "Radif".

What is 'Radif' ?

In a Ghazal, second line of all the Sher's *must* end with the *same*
word/s. This repeating common words is the 'Radif' of the Ghazal. Here, the
'Radif' is "aur hai".

We have seen uptil now that in a ghazal a "Beher" is the meter of the sher,
a "Maqta" is the last sher, a "Takkallus" is an alias used by the poet, and
now a "Radif", which are the *same* words that end a sher.

1. koee din gar zindagaanee aur hai
apne jee meiN hamne THaanee aur hai

[If there are any more days left in the life
In my heart, I have made some other plans]

2. aatish-e-dozaKH meiN ye garmee kahaaN
soz-e-GHam haay nihaanee aur hai

[When do the fires of hell have(possess) this kind of heat?
There are, O God, so many hidden(internal passions)heat due to my sorrows(burning heart)]

3. baarha dekhee haiN unkee ranjishaiN
par kuchch ab ke sar_giraanee aur hai

[I have seen her anger(getting cross/unpleasantness) many times(again & again)
But this time, her pride(more to do with an hurt pride) is something different]

4. deke KHat muNh dekhta hai naamabar
kuchch to paiGHaam-e-zabaanee aur hai

[After giving the letter, the messenger is seeing my face
There is definitely some other(more) message by mouth(word by mouth)]

5. ho chukeeN 'GHalib' balaayeN sab tamaam
ek marg-e-naagahaanee aur hai

[All the calamities(sorrowful events) have come to an end(have finished) 'Ghalib'
Only one sudden death(death without knowing/accidental death) is left]

Dictionary : dozaKH = hell; soz = passion/heat; nihaanee = internal/hidden;
baarha = again & again; ranjishaiN = unpleasantness, getting cross with anger;
sar_giraanee = pride; naamabar = messenger; balaayeN = calamities;
marg = death; naagahaanee = sudden/accidental
