Subject: Dard - the mystic!

Hi folks

Here is a ghazal by Khwaja Mir 'Dard', one of the renowned poets. Dard was
known for his mystical poems, which he could pen down in such simple, yet beautiful poetry.

1. mera jee haiN jab tak teri justjoo haiN
zubaaN jab talak haiN yehi guftagoo haiN

[Till i live, your quest is my objective/goal
Till i have a mouth/tongue, I talk only of/about you]

2. khuda jaane kya hoga anjaam iska
maiN besabar itna hooN, woh tund_khoo haiN

[God only knows, what will be the result/end of this
I am impatient, while he/she is portraying anger/intemperateness]

3. tamanna haiN teri agar haiN tamanna
teri aarzoo haiN, agar aarzoo haiN

[You alone I yearn for/desire, if I yearn/desire anything at all
You are my desire/wish, if I have any desire/wish]

4. kiya sair humne gulzaar-e-duniya
gul-e-dosti meiN ajab rang-o-boo haiN

[I have roamed the garden of the world(reference to various facets of life)
The flower of friendship has a unique/different scent and hue]

5. ghanimat haiN yeh deed wa deed-e-yaaraaN
jahaN mund gayi aaNkh, maiN hooN na tu haiN

[At least, there is this sight and the sight of friends
Once the eyes are closed, neither you nor I will be there]

6. nazar meri dil ki padi 'dard' kis par
jidhar dekhtha hooN wohi rooh_b_rooh haiN

[On whom did my heart place its sight 'dard'
He/she alone is present wherever I look]

regards
Ramesh
