Subject: Ghazal by 'Insha'
Hi folks
This ghazal is by Insha. I took it from
"Guldasta-e-Ghazal", a 2 cassette
album. The music score is by Khaiyyam, and has some nice ghazals
by greats
like Momin & Daagh. I felt that this ghazal reflects
what a
courtesan/singer-dancer in a darbaar might sing.
1. khayal keejiye kya kaam aaj maine kiya
jab un ne di mujhe gaali, salaam maine kiya
[just think of what thing/work I did today!
when he swore/got angry at me, I saluted him]
2. kaha yeh sabr ne dil se ke lo khuda
haafeez
ke haq-e-bandagee apna, tamaam maine kya
[Patience told the Heart, "Good Bye"
"I have completed my duty of loyalty to a friend"]
Here, the patience within the poet is telling
the heart(symbolically) that
"I've had enough", and am leaving you. This might have
to do with the patience
of waiting for a lover, and which seems to be dying down with
every passing moment.
3. jhidak ke kehne lage, lab chale bahut ab
tum
kabhi jo bhool ke unse, kalaam maine kiya
[In an outburst, he started telling that (I)
have begun to talk a lot
When sometimes, I forgot and discoursed/raised objections with
him]
4. hawas yeh reh gayee, sahib ne par kabhi
na kaha
ke aaj se tujhe 'insha', gulaam maine kiya
[There was this ambition/desire, but the Saheb
never told me
That, from today onwards, 'insha', I have made you my slave]
