Subject: Faraz: Ab kay ham bichray

Hi

Here is a ghazal by Faraz Ahmad Faraz (takkallus - faraz). Enjoy!

1. ab ke ham bichde to shayyad kabhi khwaboN meiN milaiN
jis tarah sookhay huey phool kitaaboN meiN milaiN

[If we get seperated this time, then maybe sometime we will meet in the dreams
Just like we find the dried flowers between pages inside books]

2. dhonda ujray huey logoN maiN wafa ke moti
yeh khazane tujhe mumkin hai kharaboN maiN milaiN

[Looked for pearls of committment in ruined people
Maybe you can find this treasure in bad people]

3. tu khuda hai na mera ishq farishtoN jaisa
donoN insaaN haiN to kyoN itnay hijaboN maiN milaiN

[You are not God, nor are you my love angel
Both of us are humans, then why do we meet in veils]

4. ab na woh haiN, na woh tu haiN, na woh maazi haiN 'faraz'
jaisay do shakhs tammanna kay saraboN maiN milaiN

[Now neither is she there, nor are you there, nor is the past there "faraz"
It was all as if two persons met in an illusion of wishes/desires]

Dictionary : ujray - desolated, ruined; kharab - bad;
hijab - here it means veil, but the word has a more socio-religious meaning than just veil;
maazi - past; sarab - illusion, mirage

ghum-e dunya bhi ghum-e yaar mein shamil kar lo
nasha bartha hain sharabein jo sharaboon maiN milaiN

aaj hum daar peh khainche gaye jin batooN per
kya Ajub kul woh zamane ko nisaboon maiN milaiN
